OUR MISSION
Attuned is a community and university endeavor, combining the efforts of individuals from the transgender community across the United States and faculty members at Weill Cornell Medical College, Ithaca College and Stony Brook University. This project was funded by the Dean’s Diversity and Healthcare Disparity Research Award at Weill Cornell Medical School and is not linked to any commercial interest. The primary goals of Attuned are to broaden access to voice therapy for the transgender community, and to support individuals in their exploration and attainment of a voice that matches their gender identity. Some of the academic team members will participate in research to evaluate outcomes of the App without violation of users’ privacy or HIPAA regulations. From the outset of the project, the team deemed it essential to include transgender individuals in building the App and its content to avoid any cis-gender bias. If the language or approach of Attuned is problematic to any individual, we welcome feedback to help improve future versions to accommodate a diversity of perspectives. The team realizes that the App format limits full consideration of voice ranges for genderqueer and non-binary individuals. In this initial version of Attuned, we sometimes refer to non-binary voice as gender-neutral with a full understanding of the oversimplification of this terminology. We encourage genderqueer and non-binary individuals to investigate the range of possibilities made available through Attuned and adapt them to their needs. Importantly, Attuned does not aim to replace individualized voice care and therapy, and we recommend one-on-one care with a specialized team when available
